S.T.A.I. - Incrocio di Passioni

Our territory demonstrates that technology and development can be both sustainable. This geographical area has reached the highest levels in the scientific, industrial and racing sectors: evidence of this are Imola’s racetrack, the ceramics industry and the medical research achievements, especially in the ophthalmic and rehabilitation field.

Once again this is a crossroads of passions: mechanics and motors, science and art. These are concepts should help the visitor to explore our land, to look at it with eyes longing for intense cultural inputs.

MotorSite is a project designed for those interested in the history of motors: a set of many tourist proposals to discover the “temples of speed”.

Imola’s Racetrack

Imola’s Racetrack, traditionally considered as the hometown of the “Rosse” all over the world, opens up a new phase of its life. This year the facility will be rebuilt according to a project developed by one of the leading experts in the sector: Hermann Tilke, the engineer who also designed the new circuits in China, Turkey, Malaysia and Bahrain.

The modernization works will involve the paddock area, the stands, and above all the 250-metre long main pit building with the purpose of making the circuit suitable for any type of event: from motors to concerts, through business conference, exhibitions and competitions.
The facility will be available for any type of event in May 2008.

MotorSite - Land of Motors

The MotorSite initiative was started out by Imola and Modena: a brand-new opportunity to join well-organised visits to the legendary places of the Italian racing tradition such as the museums dedicated to Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati and Minardi and the Stanguellini collection.

A strange quirk of fate has, in fact, led to development of a conglomeration of mechanical companies, circuits, motor racing events, museums and private collections on a small stretch of land on the Po plain between Modena and Imola, helping create a tourist attraction unique in the world.

Medicina Radio Telescopes

The most important radio-astronomic complex has been installed in Medicina and it is run by the Radio-astronomy Institute of Bologna. It includes the imposing “Croce del Nord” radio telescope and a 32-metre parabola designed to peer into the most remote depths of the universe, which cannot be seen by using the optical telescopes.

The first one has been designed according to the principle of Mill’s Crosses, two perpendicular rows of aerials exploring the space while the second one is operated for half the time, in close collaboration with the other European radio telescopes.

In 2005 the Visitors’ Centre, with a permanent exhibition and a multimedia room, was inaugurated. Explanatory panels, multimedia stations and interactive experiences allow visitors to discover this young and fascinating science.
